Rochester Red Wings News Release

Chris Coste homered in the fourth inning to help the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons beat the Red Wings 2-0 Friday night at Frontier Field. Jason Tyner had a sixth inning single to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.

J.D. Durbin got off to a fast start, striking out the first three Scranton/WB batters of the game. In the second, Durbin and the Wings defense kept the momentum going, retiring three more Red Barons including a double play.

In the third, the Red Barons literally came within inches of scoring first. With Josh Kroeger on first, Ryan Fleming hit a line drive down the first base line. As Jason Kubel hit the cut-off man Luis Maza, Kroeger was waved home by the third base coach. But Maza fired the ball to Wings' catcher Shawn Wooten and the throw just beat Kroeger to home.

In the fourth, Durbin struck out his fourth batter of the game for the inning's second out. The Red Wings seemed set for another scoreless inning, but the next batter, Chris Coste, homered for Scranton. Through four innings, both team had two hits each but the Red Barons led 1-0.

The action at the plate continued to come from Scranton, and with two outs in the fifth they loaded the bases off two Durbin walks and a single by Fleming. But the Wings were able to escape the situation with a fly out to center field, and all three were left stranded to keep the score 1-0.

At the end of fiving innings, Scranton starter Seung-Hak Lee had retired 10 straight Wings and continued his impressive pitching. He also had ended four of the five innings with a strikeout for five total.

In the sixth the Red Barons scored again, but the play of the inning belonged to Maza. With runners on first and second and one out, Brennan King hit a ball that looked like it would drop between Maza and Kubel and score at least one run, but Maza made an amazing over the shoulder grab for the second out. The Wings ended the inning down 2-0.

At the plate in the sixth, the Wings loaded the bases with one out off a Tyner single, a Jason Bartlett double, and an intentional walk of Kubel. At that point Clay Condrey was brought in to relieve Lee, and the switch worked as Condrey retired Garrett Jones and Terry Tiffee.

Bartlett's double was his 18th of the season and the most by any International League player.

Ricky Barrett relieved Durbin with one out in the seventh and retired eight straight batters, including four strikeouts.

NOTES: RHP Kyle Lohse, who was optioned to Rochester on Wednesday, will join the team in Ottawa Saturday and is scheduled to pitch game one of the doubleheader against the Lynx.
