
Clippers rally past Braves

Richmond, VA- The Columbus Clippers beat the Richmond Braves 7-6 at The Diamond Friday night. The Clippers overcame a three run deficit in the eighth inning to gain a split of the four game series.
The Clippers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on a home run by Russ Johnson. The Braves Cesar Crespo knocked in a run in the third to tie the game at one. Columbus moved back in front in the fourth inning on a two run homer by Rob Stratton. Richmond tied the game again with two runs in the fifth inning on a Kelly Johnson sac fly and a run scoring throwing error. The Braves took their first lead in the seventh inning on a three-run double by Carlos Mendez. The Clippers bounced right back, batting around in the eighth inning. Carlos Pena smashed a three run homer to tie the game. Columbus moved in front to stay on a run scoring single by Wil Nieves.
Colter Bean picked up the win. Jose Veras notched a save. Anthony Lerew took the loss. Scott Thorman had three hits for the Braves. Rob Stratton had three hits for the Clippers.
The Braves open a six game road trip tomorrow night in Norfolk at 7:15. Brian O'Connor is scheduled to pitch for the Braves against Jeriome Robertson. Richmond returns home Saturday, May 27 vs. Charlotte at 7 PM.
