INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis scored three times in the third and again in the seventh to post a 4-2 win over Charlotte Friday evening at Victory Field.

The Indians, who now lead the International League's West Division by three games over Toledo, improve to 23-18 on the season. The Knights, who still have the best record in all of professional baseball, fall to 31-10 overall and 19-5 on the road. Indianapolis evens the season series at four games apiece. The Indians are the only team to defeat Charlotte since April 24 (a 23-game span).

Indianapolis RHP Brandon Duckworth (6.2 IP, 10 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) earned the win, improving to 6-2. Duckworth is now 5-0 with a 2.23 ERA over his last six starts. Tribe LHP C.J. Nitkowski (1.1 IP, 2 SO) and RHP Jonah Bayliss (1.0 IP, 2 SO) combined for 2.1 scoreless frames with Bayliss picking up his fourth save of the year.

Indians CF Rajai Davis and LF Rich Thompson drew back-to-back walks in the third before 3B Yurendell de Caster beat out an infield single to load the bases. 1B Chris Richard then brought Davis and Thompson home with a two-run single to center, while Richard came plateward on RF Adam Boeve's base knock to left.

Charlotte closed the gap with two runs in the fifth. CF Jerry Owens beat out an infield single, moved to second on SS Jorge Velandia's single to left, stole third and came plateward on a wild pitch. Velandia crossed the dish moments later when DH Ernie Young belted a double to right center.

Indianapolis added an insurance run on a bizarre play in the seventh. Thompson walked, stole second and came all the way around to score on a throwing error when neither Charlotte middle infielder covered the base.

Boeve turned in a 2-for-4 effort with one RBI in his second Triple-A contest, while de Caster extended his hitting streak to 12 games by going 1-for-3 with one run. Owens paced the Knights by going 3-for-4 with one run.

Charlotte RHP Sean Tracey (7.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 4 SO) was pinned with the loss, falling to 4-1.

Indianapolis wraps up its longest homestand of 2006 with a two-game set against Louisville Saturday (7 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.). RHP Ron Chiavacci is scheduled to start for the Indians in the series opener, while LHP Darrell May is expected to get the call for the Bats.

The game will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com as Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley have the call. Saturday's pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.
