Red Deer Rebels News Release
PRE-SEASON PLAY UNDERWAY
The Rebels got underway with 2023-24 WHL Pre-season play with a pair of games over the weekend.
On Friday, the Rebels visited Siksika First Nation to take on the Calgary Hitmen. It was a back-and-forth battle with Red Deer overcoming four one-goal deficits before Dwayne Jean Jr. scored in overtime for a 5-4 Rebels win. Taylor Tabashniuk recorded the win in net. Jeramiah Roberts, Samuel Drancak, Quentin Bourne and Beckett Hamilton also scored for the Rebels.
Sunday afternoon at the Peavey Mart Centrium, the Rebels dropped a close 5-4 decision to the Edmonton Oil Kings. Bourne Jean Jr. each scored again for Red Deer while Jhett Larson netted his first goal of the pre-season. Kyle Kelsey and Chase Wutzke split the game in net.
UPCOMING GAMES
Pre-season play wraps up for the Rebels this coming weekend with two more games.
Friday night, the Hitmen visit the Peavey Mart Centrium for a 7 p.m. tilt. General admission tickets will be available at the door ($10 adults, $5 youth) and Season Ticket Members can enter by showing their cards.
Saturday, the Rebels wrap up the pre-season by visiting the Lethbridge Hurricanes for a 6 p.m. game.
The Red Deer Advocate Home Opener versus Edmonton goes Friday, Sept. 22 at the Peavey Mart Centrium at 7 p.m.

Five players on the current Red Deer Rebels roster are headed to camps with NHL clubs.
Kalan Lind ('05) - F - Nashville Predators
Mats Lindgren ('04) - D - Buffalo Sabres
Carson Latimer ('03) - F - Minnesota Wild
Hunter Mayo ('04) - D - Los Angeles Kings
Matteo Fabrizi ('05) - D - Vegas Golden Knights
Each of the three graduating Rebels players from the 2022-23 season are also off to NHL camps.
Ben King ('02) - F - Anaheim Ducks
Jace Isley ('02) - F - New Jersey Devils
Christoffer Sedoff ('02) - D - Vegas Golden Knights
