Rebels get past Hitmen

Red Deer, AB - Jake DeBrusk broke a 2-2 tie scoring the game winner with 4:15 remaining in the third period lifting the Red Deer Rebels to a 3-2 victory over the Calgary Hitmen on Friday night at the ENMAX Centrium.
The Hitmen nearly forced overtime when a Radel Fazleev shot deflected off the inside of the goalpost and rolled out the other side with less than 10 seconds remaining.
Adam Helewka netted a pair of first period goals helping the Rebels build a 2-0 lead, but the second period belonged to Calgary. Pavel Karnaukhov and Carsen Twarynski replied for the visitors to send the contest to the third period tied 2-2.
The win by Red Deer pulls the MasterCard Memorial Cup hosts seven points ahead of the Hitmen for second place in the Central Division, but Calgary has a game in hand.
The Hitmen, who received a pair of assists from Matteo Gennaro, outshot the Rebels 33-29.
Calgary, 36-24-2-2, is back in the Scotiabank Saddledome to host Red Deer in the return match of this home-and-home set on Sunday, Mar. 6 at 4:00 p.m. Not only is it Multicultural Night, which will include a pre-game Parade of Flags but also Sunday Funday presented by Booster Juice and McKnight 24 Hour Veterinary Hospital. The day features face painters and a post-game family skate. All participants under 18 are required to wear a helmet. A special kids ticket price of $7.50 (plus applicable fees) for children 12 and under is available for Sunday home games.
