Red Deer Rebels News Release

The Red Deer Rebels found themselves in a favourable position yet again on Saturday but wound up on the sad side of a WHL Central Divison contest versus the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Such was the case on the previous night in Medicine Hat when the Rebels blew a 2-0 lead, the home side gained a two-goal lead only to fall 5-2 to the Tigers at the Centrium.

"We didn't have all of our guys going tonight," said Rebels assistant coach Ryan Colville, " I thought we had B games from a lot of guys tonight. I thought we looked tired.

"We have to find ways to finish off these games. Our first and second perioda we were good tonight and from there we were slow and looked tired. Not everybody was going but we still had a chance in the third period to be right there."

Arshdeep Bains gave the Rebels an early lead when he slipped a backhand behind netminder Garin Bjorklund 9:49 into the contest, and Ben King upped the count to 2-0 later in the period on a power play, finding the back of the net with a slap shot from the top of the right circle.

But that was it for the Rebels, who gave up the next five goals.

Ryan Chyzowski cut the Rebels lead to one when he scored at 6:32 of the second period and Reid Andersen pulled the visitors even when he cashed a rebound six minutes later.

Corson Hopwo notched a winning goal for the visitors when he bured a rebound early in the third period and Chase Clayton and Brett Kemp closed out the scoring over the final eight minutes.

"We put ourselves in positions to win these games. We were tied or winning going into the third period, we just have to find out way a way to finish off these games," said Colville.

The clubs meet again on Monday in Medicine Hat.
