The Story:

Portland made their final trip of the season to Everett Sunday, concluding their weekend against the U.S. Division leaders.

An active first period for Portland saw them claim the first seven shots of the contest, eventually leading to an 18-7 advantage at the end of 20. None of the 18 found the back of the net, as Everett netminder and Calgary Flames netminder Dustin Wolf was up to the task on each opportunity.

That trend continued into the second, as all of the Winterhawks tries in the first half of the period were turned aside and eventually Everett was finally able to strike first. Then, just 32 seconds later, they were able to beat Dante Giannuzzi again and take a 2-0 lead.

The two goals started a rush of five total goals coming in just 9:54 to end the second period.

The first of the bunch for Portland came courtesy of Seth Jarvis, who put home a puck that made its way through multiple Everett bodies. It was the seventh of the season for the Hurricanes prospect.

Just as quickly as Portland cut the Silvertips lead to one, they extended it to two once again.

Before the end of the second the Winterhawks were able to garner some momentum and make it a 3-2 game, courtesy of Ryan McCleary. The rookie defenseman jumped up in the play and after a Reece Newkirk rebound kicked out front, he put it back top shelf.

Back within one was as close as Portland would get though, as Everett would strike three times unanswered in the third to close out the ordeal.

THEY SAID IT

"I really liked our start, I thought we had great energy. Wolf was really good in the first period... and I thought he stopped about two or three others that were point blank and kept them in the game early. I thought if we could've make them chase the game it could've gone a bit different but I liked our battle."

Winterhawks Vice President / General Manager /Head Coach Mike Johnston providing his thoughts post-game.

NOTES

- Goaltender Brock Gould entered in relief of Dante Giannuzzi midway through the third period.
