HERRIMAN, Utah - - Real Salt Lake defender Ashtone Morgan has been named to the Canada Men's National Team roster for its upcoming World Cup Qualifying matches against Aruba on June 5 and Suriname on June 8. Canada features in Group B of Concacaf's World Cup Qualifying where it currently leads the group with six points after winning its previous two contests against the Cayman Islands and Bermuda.
"It's always an honor to get called in to represent your country," RSL General Manager Elliot Fall said. "We are really excited that Ashtone's hard work has earned him another call-up with Canada. Hopefully he will get the opportunity to represent them on the field."
Morgan, 30, signed with RSL in January 2020 after spending his nine previous professional seasons with Toronto FC where he won MLS Cup in 2017. A product of Toronto FC's Academy, Morgan has two goals and 11 assists in 128 MLS appearances, 92 as a starter. In addition to winning MLS Cup and the Supporters' Shield in 2017, Morgan also helped TFC to five Canadian Championships. He has 19 appearances in the annual tournament to crown the best club in Canada and 22 appearances in CONCACAF Champions League, notching one goal in international tournament in 2018.
Morgan made in RSL debut on May 15, entering as a second-half substitute.
The Toronto native has 18 appearances with the Canadian National Team, most recently appearing in two friendlies against Barbados on January 10 and Iceland on January 15, both in Irvine, California.
Real Salt Lake returns to the field on Friday, June 18 to welcome Vancouver Whitecaps FC at 8 p.m. MT. Tickets to the match can be purchased at RSL.com or by calling 844.REAL.TIX (844-732-5849).
