Sporting KC to Host Groundbreaking Ceremony on June 18
June 2, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Sporting Kansas City News Release
Sporting Kansas City will host a groundbreaking ceremony on June 18 for the Central Bank Sporting Complex, a $36 million multisport facility located at the northwest corner of Highway 152 and North Platte Purchase Drive in Kansas City, Mo.
The 76-acre, tournament-quality complex is the focal point of an anticipated $375-million, multi-phase development on 492 acres within Twin Creeks Village. Major components of the mixed-use project include a campus for the Platte County R-3 School District, single and multi-family housing units, and commercial space for retail, office, restaurant, hotel and entertainment destinations.
A 10-minute drive from Kansas City International Airport for out-of-town visitors, Twin Creeks Village is projected to stimulate $2.26 billion in sales over a 30-year period after completion, which combined with the economic activity at the adjacent Costco location would generate an estimated $505.5 million in sales tax revenues during that time span.
Central Bank Sporting Complex is scheduled to open in late summer of 2022. The facility will feature 10 synthetic turf fields designed for year-round use by soccer, football, baseball, softball and lacrosse teams as well as a wide range of other activities, events and programming through Sporting Fields + Athletics . All 10 fields will be lighted with convenient parking and additional on-site amenities will include trail connections, inclusive playgrounds, a fieldhouse, restrooms and concessions.
Guests at the groundbreaking ceremony will include government officials from Kansas City and Platte County, along with representatives from Clarkson Construction, MD Management, Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce, Olsson, Platte County Economic Development Council, Superior Bowen, Variety KC and WSKF Architects.
Central Bank of the Midwest will have exclusive naming rights for Central Bank Sporting Complex through 2026 in conjunction with a larger partnership agreement with Sporting KC as the club's official checking account partner and the official jersey sponsor of Sporting Missouri Valley. Central Bank of the Midwest serves 28 local communities with 47 branches in Kansas and Missouri as part of the Central Bank family of banks.
"We are proud to continue our commitment to the communities we live and work in by supporting this world-class facility," said Central Bank of the Midwest President and CEO Bill Ferguson. "The Central Bank Sporting Complex will provide many with a place to enjoy playing the sports they love, and we are excited to be a part of that."
Sporting Club has designed, constructed and operated state-of-the-art facilities across the region since purchasing Sporting KC in 2006. Beginning with the opening of Swope Soccer Village in 2007 as a premier venue for youth, collegiate and professional teams, the commitment to building amenities for athletes of all ages and abilities has expanded to Children's Mercy Park, Compass Minerals National Performance Center, Compass Minerals Sporting Fields and more than 20 local futsal courts in the last decade.
