Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
(BRADENTON,FL) - Alex Real drove in three runs, and Tyler Jay tossed seven shutout innings, as the Fort Myers Miracle defeated the Bradenton Marauders 5-2 on Wednesday night at McKechnie Field in Bradenton.
The Miracle jumped out on top quickly by scoring two runs in the very first inning. With one out, Chris Paul singled, Nick Gordon walked, and Edgar Corcino was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Trey Vavra followed that with a walk to score Paul, and Real then reached on a fielder's choice to score Gordon, giving Fort Myers a 2-0 lead.
That advantage doubled in size in the sixth. With one out, Gordon struck out but reached safely on a wild pitch. Corcino and Vavra then singled to load the bases for Real, who promptly lined another single to left field, scoring Gordon and Corcino to make the score 4-0.
Max Murphy hit his second homerun of the season, a line shot to left with one out in the ninth, to give the Miracle their final run of the night and increase their lead to 5-0.
The host Marauders did rally to score twice off the Miracle bullpen in the bottom of the inning, but Brandon Peterson came on with the bases loaded and two out and retired Pablo Reyes on a fly ball to center to end the game and preserve the victory.
Jay (3-2) scattered three hits in his seven innings of work, walking just one and striking out six.
The Miracle and Marauders will meet again at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers at 7:05 p.m. Thursday night.
