Stone Crabs Road Trip Recap: May 5-10

May 11, 2016 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release

The Stone Crabs return home after an incredibly impressive road trip, featuring their most explosive offensive performance of the season and a clean sweep of the Palm Beach Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium. After the 4-2 trip, the Crabs are tied for first place in the Florida State League South Division with Fort Myers at 18-14.

Charlotte's bats went wild over the six game sojourn, particularly once the trip went down to Palm Beach. The Stone Crabs entered that series having scored five or more runs in just three of their first 29 games. They accomplished that feat in all three contests against the Cardinals, churning out 36 hits, their highest total in a three-game series this year.

Cade Gotta stood out among individuals on the trip, going 12-for-25 with four extra-base hits, including a home run on Monday night. Gotta is near the top of the FSL leaderboard with a .341 batting average. Former first-round pick Nick Ciuffo raised his average more than 50 points with a 10-for-21 week, including three hits yesterday. Ciuffo had a hit in every game of the road trip.

The Stone Crabs, as they have all season, excelled on the mound as well. Hunter Wood began the trip in Bradenton with six innings of two-run ball, and finished it off with a brilliant one-hit performance in yesterday's sweep-clinching victory. Brent Honeywell improved to 4-0 with a win on Monday night, and Brian Miller notched two saves out of the pen.

Charlotte has won eight of their last ten overall, climbing into a tie atop the division. Come out to Charlotte Sports Park today through May 19 to see the red-hot hometown heroes in action!
