Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

Jupiter, FL - The Florida State League has named Jorgan Cavanerio as the Pitcher of the Week (May 2nd-8th) in the Florida State League for his performance against the Palm Beach Cardinals. Cavanerio began the best performance for the Hammerheads pitching staff this season, tossing 6.0 innings of hitless and scoreless baseball as the Hammerheads defeated the Cardinals 6-0 to clinch a sweep and move to 5-1 against Palm Beach so far this season.

It is the first honor for a Jupiter Hammerhead this season and Cavanerio moved his single game season high in innings pitched to six with a season high three strikeouts. It was the first No-No in the Florida State League since 2013, a year where the Hammerheads also performed a three pitcher no hitter.

"I just looked to get outs, I felt really good and wanted to keep pitching but I understand that I am on a pitch count limitation and supported my teammates after my outing was complete, " said Cavanerio about his six-inning, no hit, three strikeout and two walk performance against the Palm Beach Cardinals.

The Hammerheads have surged into fifth place in the Southern Division of the Florida State League and it has been on the back of solid pitching outings. Cavanerio worked his longest outing of the season and has been honored with this selection as pitcher of the week.

Cavanerio was signed as a Free Agent in 2011 by the Marlins out of Cagua, Venezuela. Spent his youth competing in camps and programs working hard to get signed by an affiliated club. Cavanerio is a highly touted prospect and with that No-Hit performance grabs his first win of the season in six starts, team lead in 29.2 innings pitched this season.

In 2015, the Hammerheads recorded 9-All Stars and here in 2016 the Hammerheads add another name to the award list. The Hammerheads pitching staff has had a solid beginning to the month of May after finished 10-13 as a ball club in April.

Jupiter hosts St. Lucie on the back end of a two game set between Tradition Field and here at Roger Dean Stadium. Jorgan Cavanerio's next start is still TBD, but he has certainly turned some heads in the Marlins organization and the Florida State League.
