TOP NOTES OF THE WEEK
1. The Royals four game road trip out west this past week marked the second time in team history that Reading has traveled to National Conference buildings. The last time the Royals went out west, (12/27/05 - 01/03/06), the team played five games in Stockton and Long Beach, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada. The Royals went 5-0-0 on that trip. This past week's trip, during which the team went 2-2-0, marked the first time that Reading has traveled to West Division buildings, playing two games in The E-Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and two games in Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho.
2. The Royals have now completed the portion of their regular season schedule against National Conference (all West Division) opponents. Including the Royals 6-2 victory over Idaho at the Sovereign Center on November 1, the Royals went 3-2-0 record against the National Conference this season, placing the team's all time record outside the American Conference at 13-3-2.
3. The 5-4 loss to the Utah Grizzlies on Tuesday night, marked the ninth one goal regulation loss for the Royals this season. The 5-4 win for the team over the Idaho Steelheads on Saturday night marked the third one-goal regulation win for the Royals this year. Overall, including the games that ended in a tie and were resolved in either OT or the shootout (Reading is 0-0 in overtime; and 3-2 in shootout), the Royals are 6-9-2 in one-goal games this season.
4. The Royals 3-0 win over Utah on Wednesday night, marked the first time this season the Royals have held the opposition off the scoreboard, and the second time that they've held the opposition to one goal or less-and Reading is 1-1-0 in those games. The Royals' defense has held the opposition to two goals or less eight times this year and has compiled a record of 6-2-0 in those games. Reading has allowed 150 goals through 38 games, which is a 3.95 team GAA (twenty-third in the league).
5. Wednesday's shutout was the third of the season for goaltender, Michael Ouzas, who had a pair of shutouts for the Fresno Falcons earlier this season. Ouzas is cur- rently tied for the league lead in that category. The win on Wednesday was the twelfth of the season for Ouzas, who is tied for fourth in the league in that category. Ouzas is also among the league leaders in minutes played (1361, 3rd), shootout wins (2, t-3rd), and goals against average (2.82, 19th).
6. Wednesday's 3-0 win over Utah marked only the third game this season in which the Royals did not either trail or find themselves in a tie with the opposition at any point in the game. (The other two were the 6-2 win over Idaho on November 1; and the 5-4 win in Dayton on December 10). The Royals led 2-0 entering the third period on Wednesday, marking only the fourth time this year that the team has held a lead going into the third period. Reading is 4-0-0 in those games.
7..Brock Hooton scored a pair of goals in the 3-0 win in Utah, including his fourth short-handed goal of the year (which is second in the league). Hooton also picked up three points (1g-2a) in Tuesday's 5-4 loss; assisted on the only goal scored in Friday's 3-1 loss to Idaho; and racked up 3 assists in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Steel- heads, including one on the GWG by Chris Stevens. Hooton is currently riding a six game point streak for Reading (5g-7a=12pts). Hooton leads the Royals in goals (12) and is tied (with Tyler Doig) for the team lead in points (12g-16a=28pts).
8.The Royals 3-1 loss in Idaho on Friday, marked the eighth time this year that the Royals offense has been held to one goal or less; and the fifteenth time this season that Reading has been held to two goals or less,. The team has compiled an 0-15-0 record in those games. Reading has scored 110 goals in the 38 games played so far this year, which is a 2.89 goals per game average-fifteenth in the league .
9. Saturday's 5-4 win over Idaho marked the sixth time this season that the Royals have trailed after one period and come back to win (6-15-0) and the fifth time this year that Reading has entered the third period tied with the opposition and won the game (5-3-0).
10. In the four games played this week, the Royals power play went 6 for 26 (23.1% scoring ratio). In two of the games (both wins), Reading racked up multi-PPG perform- ances. Reading has had ten multi-PPG games this year. Overall, the Royals PP has scored 32 PPG in 205 chances, a 15.6% scoring ratio, twelfth in the league.
11. This past week, the Royals allowed 5 PPGA in 27 chances for the opponents (81.5% kill radio). Reading allowed multi-PPGAs in the two losses this week. The PK kept the Grizzlies' PP off the board in Wednesday's win, marking the 6th time Reading's PK has blanked the opponent's PP. The Royals are killing at a 77.7% ratio (21 in the league).
CLOSING NOTES
1. The game winning goal on Wednesday, which was also the first goal of the game, was scored by Peder Skinner, marking his first GWG as a Royal (and his second of the season). Skinner is currently riding a 3 game point streak for Reading (1g-2a). On Saturday, Chris Stevens also scored his first GWG as a Royal. In that game, Steven's had a pair of goals marking his second multi-goal game as a Royal.
2. Steve Ward is currently riding a team-long eight game point streak for the Royals (3g-5a).
3. Kirk MacDonald registered three assists on Saturday night, including one on the third period game winner by Chris Stevens. That marked MacDonald's first three-point game as a Royal and his ninth multi-point game of the year (which is tied with Tyler Doig for the team lead in that category).
4. Tyler Doig racked up a pair of multi-point games this past week, including his second two-goal game of the year (on Tuesday in Utah). Doig, who assisted on the game winner by Peder Skinner on Wednesday in Utah, currently leads the Royals with 19 assists and is tied for the team lead in scoring (9g-19a=28pts).
5. Tim Branham scored his first goal as a Royal in Saturday's 5-4 win. Branham also registered an assist on the team's second goal that night (by Tyler Doig) to rack up his first multi-point game of the season. Branham has had an assist in six of the last seven games he's played for Reading.
6. Reading was out-shot in all four games played by the team last week-by a total of 152-114 (-38). Overall this year, the Royals have been out-shot 1325 - 1102 (-223). Reading been out-shot in 28 of the 38 games played and has com- piled a record of 9-17-2 in those games. The Royals average 29.00 shots per game (19th) and give up 34.87 shots per game (19th).
