Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
CLINTON, IA -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers beat the Clinton LumberKings 4-3 on Monday night at Alliant Energy Field to move into first place in the first half Midwest League Western Division race. Rattler starter Jason Snyder pitched eight innings and struck out eight for his eighth win of the season. Yung Chi Chen had three hits, including his fourth home run of the season, to pace the Rattlers fourteen hit attack.
Wisconsin (36-28) came out swinging. Sebastien Boucher and Chen both singled to start the game. Asdrubal Cabrera tripled both of them in for a 2-0 Rattler lead. Rob Johnson followed with an RBI single to put the Rattlers up by three.
Clinton (35-29) got on the board with a two-out, two-run home run by Kevin Richardson in the bottom of the second.
Chen padded the Rattler lead with a solo homer to start the top of the third.
Ben Harrison drew Clinton closer with a lead-off home in the bottom of the eighth inning. Snyder matched his professional high for strikeouts with eight, didn't walk anyone, allowed five hits, and would leave after the eighth inning.
The Rattlers nearly added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning. Cabrera singled with two outs. Johnson doubled down the left field line and Cabrera raced for home. A perfect relay throw from Adam Fox got Cabrera at the plate for the final out of the inning.
Rattler closer Craig James entered in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a lead-off single to Jim Fasano. Brandon Boggs entered as a pinch runner and was sacrificed to second by Fox. James got the next two batters to ground out to second base to end the game and put the Rattlers in first. James has converted on all eight of his save opportunities.
The Wisconsin win puts them a game ahead of Clinton in the Western Division standings with six games left in the first half. Wisconsin and the LumberKings have two games remaining in their three game series in Clinton.
Game two of their showdown series is scheduled for Tuesday night. Casey Abrams (3-4, 5.13ERA) is scheduled to start for Wisconsin. Kyle Rogers (3-4, 6.54ERA) is slated to start for Clinton. Game time is 7:00pm.
