Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

TIME WARNER CABLE FIELD -- The first game played by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers as an affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers was a memorable one. The Rattlers scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to make a home opening day record crowd very happy after a 2-1 win over the Quad Cities River Bandits.

Quad Cities (0-1) grabbed the lead with a run in the top of the third against Rattler starting pitcher Cody Scarpetta. Aaron Luna doubled to center and Paul Cruz followed with an RBI single to right. Those were the only two hits allowed by Scarpetta on the evening. The Rattler right-hander struck out eight and walked one over four innings.

But, Wisconsin's bats could not cash in any chances. They were 0-for in their first eight opportunities with runners in scoring position.

Fortunately, Rattler relievers Liam Ohlmann (1IP) and Efrain Nieves (3IP) combined to keep the the deficit at 1-0 through the top of the eighth.

Brett Lawrie started the rally as he reached second on an error by River Bandit third baseman Domnit Bolivar. A sacrifice bunt and a strikeout had Lawrie at third with two outs. Michael Vass drove Lawrie home with a single deep in the hole at short and Wisconsin (1-0) tied the game.

John Delaney drew a walk to put a pair of runners on base for Sean McCraw. McCraw grounded a 3-2 pitch toward Bolivar with the runners moving and Bolivar allowed the ball to get past him for an error. By the time the ball was retrieved, Vass had crossed home plate with the go ahead run.

Jim Henderson closed down the victory in front of 5,487 with a scoreless ninth inning.

Game two of the series is Friday night. Evan Frederickson is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Quad Cities will counter with Scott McGregor. Game time is 6:35pm.
