Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, have announced that catcher Dante Love has been promoted from the Cougars to the Stockton Ports of the California League (Class-A). Catcher Petey Paramore takes Love's place on the Cougars' 25-man active roster and joins Juan Nunez as the team's primary two backstops. The squad has arrived in Central Illinois in preparation for this evening's season-opening game against the Peoria Chiefs at O' Brien Field.

Love (39th Rd, 2006) split the 2008 season with the Cougars and Vancouver Canadians (Short-A), playing in nine games for the Cougars last summer before being transferred to Vancouver.

Paramore (3rd Rd, 2008), who sustained a minor injury towards the end of spring training in Arizona, is active and eligible for tonight's season opener. Similar to Love, Paramore got a brief taste of Kane County last season, playing in 31 games (.225, 1 HR, 14 RBI) and got his first RBIs as a Cougar with a three-run double on July 29 vs. Peoria at Wrigley Field. Playing collegiately at Arizona State University, Paramore was one of a school-record 15 Sun Devils who were drafted by a Major League team last June, and is the highest draft pick from the Oakland '08 class to currently play for the Cougars.

The first pitch of the season will be thrown at 6:30 p.m. tonight as righty Matt Fitts receives the Opening Night start for new Cougars manager Steve Scarsone. The three-game series concludes Saturday, as the Cougars take a league-wide day off on Sunday before opening their '09 home campaign against the Burlington Bees Monday at 3 p.m. at the newly-renovated Elfstrom Stadium.
