Great Lakes Loons News Release
DAYTON, OH - The Great Lakes Loons begin their third season of Minor League Baseball in the Midwest League tonight beginning at 7pm as the Loons battle the Dayton Dragons. The game can be heard beginning at 6:30pm on ESPN 100.9-FM. The Loons are a perfect 2-0 in season-opening contests.
Following three games in Dayton Thursday through Saturday and an off-day Easter Sunday, the Loons begin their first homestand of the season Monday at Dow Diamond with a game against the West Michigan Whitecaps, an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. The game will feature the first of 12 fireworks shows, powered by Dow Corning. It's also magnet schedule giveaway night, presented by Farm Bureau Insurance.
Kids planning to attend the game are encouraged to have their parents bring them to the park early. All kids in attendance will be invited to participate in a pre-game youth parade, and then stay on the field to participate in a kids' tunnel through which the players will enter the field. One lucky youngster will be chosen at random to throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the season.
Tickets still remain for opening day and can be purchased by phone (989-837-BALL), internet (Loons.com) or in person at the Dow Diamond ticket office. Admission starts as low as $6.
Options for group outings and ticket packages, from eight games to all 70, are still available.
Monday's contest begins at 6:05pm with gates opening at 5pm. The Loons have pushed their standard starting time for Monday through Saturday games in April from 7:05pm to 6:05pm.
"We received significant feedback from fans wanting an earlier start time for April games for two primary reasons," said Loons President and General Manager Paul Barbeau. "One, to maximize the game's daylight hours and help combat the unpredictable Michigan weather. And two, to get kids back home and in bed one hour earlier on a school night."
The Loons continue their homestand Tuesday at 6:05 with the first of the team's new Dollar Family Feast Nights, presented by Chemical Bank, which feature hot dogs, ice cream sandwiches and 12 oz. Coke products priced at $1 each. Thursday Night is College Night, featuring the third-annual College Olympics. Sunday's game begins at 3:05pm and is the first Family Fun in the SUNday promotion of the season, with Kids Run the Bases after the game, presented by Farm Bureau Insurance.
The Great Lakes Loons are the third-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. Tickets for the 2009 season are now on sale. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
