Rats Add Two Players

Albany N.Y. – The Albany River Rats announced today that the club has received two players on loan from the Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils. Defenseman Sean Brown cleared waivers and was assigned to Albany along with defender Phil Cole, whose suspension was lifted prior to his assignment.

Brown, 27, appeared in four games with the Devils this year after signing as a free agent on July 24, 2003. He has totals of 13 goals, 29 assists for 42 points and 828 penalty minutes in 354 National Hockey League games with Edmonton, Boston and New Jersey. Brown was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins with their second choice (21st overall) in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.

Cole, 21, has yet to appear in any action during the 2003-04 campaign after splitting his first professional season between Albany and the Columbus Cottonmouths of the ECHL. He skated in four games with the River Rats and competed in 51 games for the Cottonmouths, totaling four goals and five assists with 135 penalty minutes during the 2002-03 season. Cole was New Jersey's eighth choice (125th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Albany hosts the Hershey Bears in a 7:00pm face-off tomorrow night at Pepsi Arena. All seats are just $10 for every Wednesday home game during the 2003-04 season.

The Albany River Rats, in their 11th season as a member of the American Hockey League, are owned and operated by Capital District Sports Inc., and serve as the primary affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils.
