
Rascals Fall 4-2 to Aviators

O'Fallon, MO - The Rascals (20-14) lost 4-2 to the Rockford Aviators (23-11) on Wednesday, June 24 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. The Rascals now trail Rockford by 3.0 games in the standings.
LHP Lucas Laster made his second start of the season for the Rascals, coming off of an 8.2-inning performance in which he received a no-decision. He retired the first seven batters he faced and took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He received his second no-decision after surrendering a run on four hits over 6.0 innings. The lefty struck out four and walked two.
The Rascals broke a scoreless tie in the fourth frame. 3B Taylor Ard launched his team-leading eighth homerun, a solo shot, over the left field fence. He has homered in two straight games.
The Aviators knotted the game 1-1 in the sixth inning when Michael Hur hit a one-out double and scored on a double by Dusty Robinson.
In the top of the eighth inning, Greg Velazquez, Hur, and Ja'Ron Shepherd each walked to load the bases. Robinson then hit his second RBI double, driving in all three runners.
The Rascals added one run in the bottom of the inning. SS Johnny Morales doubled, and LF Brian Hansen hit an RBI single.
RHP Chandler Jagodzinski (L, 0-2) surrendered two runs despite not allowing a hit. He walked two batters and tossed 1.1 inning of relief. RHP Derek Cape allowed one run on one hit and a walk in just 0.1 inning. RHP Will Schierholz tossed 1.1 scoreless inning.
Rockford starter Kyle Hassna surrendered just one run, on Ard's homer, and three hits. He struck out seven and issued one walk in 6.0 innings. Colby Holmes (W, 1-2) was the first man out of the bullpen. He pitched 1.0 perfect frame and earned his first victory. Matt Frahm surrendered on run in 1.0 inning, and Michael Schaub (S, 12) earned the save after pitching a perfect ninth inning.
The Rascals and Rockford Aviators play the series rubber match on Thursday, June 25 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark at 6:35 p.m. CDT.
