Schaumburg Boomers News Release

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, dropped a 5-3 decision to the Joliet Slammers on Wednesday night.

Schaumburg held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the contest. Steve McQuail registered the first of three hits in the game in the bottom of the first to bring home Joel Hutter with the first run. After Joliet tied the game in the second, Justin Vasquez came across on a wild pitch to place the Boomers ahead. Jordan Dean tied the score at 3-3 with an RBI double in the fourth. Joliet used single runs in the fifth and sixth to collect the win.

Mike Schulze extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a first inning single. The streak is the longest in the league this year and matches a team record set by Gerard Hall last season. Brett Mabry suffered the loss, working six innings. Brandon Bargas tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen and Jake Joyce struck out the side in the ninth.

Schaumburg (15-20) concludes the brief three-game series with Joliet on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. with a Thirsty Thursday and Strikeout Stroke Night. RHP Raul Jacobsen (0-0, 5.79) will make his second professional start for the Boomers while Joliet counters with former Schaumburg hurler LHP Hunter Ackerman (1-1, 7.71).
