
Wild Things and Freedom Split Double Header

FLORENCE, KY - The Wild Things split a doubleheader with the Florence Freedom Wednesday, at UC Health Stadium. Washington enjoyed a 2-1 victory in game one of the double header, but the Freedom was victorious in game two, defeating the Wild Things 8-0.
In game one, Danny Poma gave the Wild Things the early lead, hitting a solo home run to start off the first inning. The Freedom, however, were quick to respond and tied the game at one off a Kyle Carter solo home run, in his first Frontier League at bat.
The game remained tied into the sixth inning, when Lee Orr drove in CJ Beatty with an RBI fielder's choice giving the Wild Things a 2-1 lead. An impressive double play by the Washington infield secured the victory for the Wild Things.
Luke Wilkins earned the win on the mound, surrendering just three hits and one run in five innings.
Game two belonged to the Florence Freedom. Daniel Fraga began the hitting spree with an RBI double to give the Freedom an early 1-0 lead. An RBI single, sacrifice fly, and two run double secured the insurmountable lead for Florence, endingwho led the Wild Things by six runs at the end of the first inning.
Two more runs in the sixth extended the lead to 8-0 for the Freedom. Casey Henn made Freedom history. Henn not only earned the mound win but also threw the second no hitter in Florence Freedom history.
The Wild Things and Freedom meet for the final game of the series Thursday evening when air time on WJPA 95.3 FM is 6:55 p.m. EDT. Washington returns to CONSOL Energy Park on Tuesday, June 30th when the team will host Pete Rose. Tickets are available at the box office or on line at www.washingtonwildthings.com.
