
Rascals avoid sweep

The Gateway Grizzlies are still yet to sweep a series in 2005. With the chance to sweep the Rascals Saturday night, the Grizzlies lost a lead in the eighth, and fell to River City 9-6 at GMC Stadium.
The Grizzlies drop to 24-29. River City is 30-23.
The Grizzlies led 3-2 before Ryan Hamilton (3-2) surrendered two runs in the eighth inning. Hamilton suffered the loss. Chris Little committed an error in the top of the ninth that led to a five-run inning to cap the night. All of that came after a strong start by Nick Szczur. Szczur went seven innings. He allowed two runs on five hits. He struck out five.
Aaron Ledbetter (10-0) went the distance for the win. It was his first complete game of the year. Ledbetter moved into a tie for the league lead with his 10th win for the Racals.
Mike Madrid hit two home runs on the night for the Rascals. He hit a solo shot in the second. He hit a three-run shot in the ninth. He had five RBIs on the night.
The Grizzlies head to Windy City for a three-game series beginning Sunday night. Game time Sunday is 5:05 p.m. Fans can tune in beginning at 4:50 on WESL 1490 AM.
