Ogden Raptors News Release

OGDEN, UT - Antonio Hernandez pitched five shutout innings, Sam McWilliams hit a home run and the Ogden Raptors broke open the game in the later innings to beat the Orem Owlz, 14-1, and sweep the two-game series at Lindquist Field.

The Raptors improved to 3-0 in the second half and won their sixth straight after having a 12-game winning streak snapped.

After Hernandez struck out two batters to strand a runner on third in the first, Andy Pages opened the bottom of the inning with a four-pitch walk. He stole second and then scored on a Ryan Ward base hit. After the Owlz removed their starter with an injury, the Raptors loaded the bases and Ward scored on a wild pitch.

In the second, Ward stroked a two-out double before McWilliams launched his two-run shot over Raptor Ridge.

Hernandez finished his fifth inning with only two hits allowed and five strikeouts, but Ogden's lead remained 4-0 until the sixth.

In the sixth, Zac Ching walked and Brandon Wulff hit a soaring drive that got lost against the sky for a run-scoring triple. Wulff later scored on a wild pitch, and Ward's second double of the game plated Pages, who had singled, for a 7-0 lead.

The Raptors scored three more in the seventh - Cesar Mendoza's double the big hit - and manufactured four runs in the eighth. Pages drove in two in the eight with a double, giving him three RBI on the night.

Orem scratched out a run in the ninth to avoid the shutout.

Ogden takes Sunday off before heading to Grand Junction for a three-game series starting Monday at 6:40 PM.
