Bisonfish Build Big Lead, Survive Chukars Late

Great Falls, MT - The Bisonfish received a quality start from Jason Morgan and a three-hit game from Kelvin Maldonado to spark a wild 11-10 win over Idaho Falls Saturday night at Centene Stadium. Playing as the Bisonfish for one night only, Great Falls (2-0, 17-22) made it three straight wins and improved to 6-5 against Idaho Falls in the season series. The Chukars (0-2, 21-18) lost their third in a row and sit at 10-10 on the road this season.

Idaho Falls opened the scoring with a two-run first on back-to-back RBI singles by Isaiah Henry and Ismaldo Rodriguez. Great Falls cut the lead to 2-1 with an unearned run in the bottom of the first. Harvin Mendoza tripled into the right field corner and scored on a dropped fly ball in center off the bat of Lency Delgado. The Bisonfish drew within 4-2 after plating a run in the fourth. Kleyder Sanchez singled to left-center and reached third on two wild pitches. Sanchez scored on an RBI groundout to short by Kelvin Maldonado.

A six-run explosion in the fifth flipped the lead to Great Falls. The first eight Bisonfish reached base in the inning. Luis Curbelo led off with a double to deep left. Harvin Mendoza made it 4-3 with an RBI single to left-center. Lency Delgado singled to right. Luis Mieses loaded the bases with a walk. The tying run scored on a hit-by-pitch of Sam Abbott. Anderson Comas then walked with the bases loaded for a 5-4 lead. Kleyder Sanchez punched an RBI single up the middle for a two-run advantage. And, Kelvin Maldonado made it 8-4 with a two-run double banged off the third base bag and into left.

Great Falls extended the lead to 11-4 with a three-run seventh as eight batters came to the plate. Kelvin Maldonado lined a single to left. Caberea Weaver reached base with a bunt single to third. With two outs, Harvin Mendoza walked to load the bases. Lency Delgado then strummed a bases-clearing double into left-center that was lost in the lights by the outfield.

Idaho Falls sent 12 men to the plate in a six-run top of the ninth before the Bisonfish obtained the final out with the bases loaded and the tying run at third. The Chukars produced seven hits with two walks in the inning, including a two-run double from Michael Emodi.

Jason Morgan earned his first professional win with his third consecutive quality start. Morgan (1-3) worked six innings and yielded four runs (two earned) on six hits with a season-high seven strikeouts and just one walk. Nathan Webb took the loss. Webb (1-3) went four innings and allowed eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Rigo Fernandez notched his first save with one run allowed on three hits. He struck out two and walked one.

The Chukars outhit the Bisonfish 14-to-12. Michael Emodi posted two doubles with three RBIs for Idaho Falls. Four Great Falls batters had multi-hit games. Kelvin Maldonado went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Great Falls continues its seven-day home stand with game five and the series finale against Idaho Falls Sunday afternoon.
