Key Hits Fuel Voyagers Fourth Straight Win

Great Falls, MT - The Voyagers batted around and scored five times in a difference-making third inning that sparked a 7-5 victory over Idaho Falls Sunday afternoon at Centene Stadium. Great Falls (3-0, 18-22) won its fourth in a row to match a season-best winning streak, and improved to 7-5 against Idaho Falls. The Voyagers claimed the series 4-to-1. The Chukars (0-3, 21-19) dropped their fourth in a row and sit at 10-11 on the road this season.

After Idaho Falls opened the scoring with a single tally in the first, the Voyagers found life in the home half of the third. The five-run frame started with a hit-by-pitch of Tyrus Greene. Jonathan Allen singled on the ground into right. Joshua Rivera then reached base on a fielder's choice that featured a throwing error by the second baseman and allowed the tying run to score. Luis Curbelo singled to left. Harvin Mendoza gave Great Falls a 2-1 lead with an RBI single to left. Lency Delgado made it 4-1 with a two-run double lined up the left field side. Luis Mieses brought the final run of the inning home on a sacrifice fly to right.

The Chukars trimmed the lead to 5-3 in the sixth with a two-run home run high and deep to left off the bat of Rhett Aplin. Aplin's seventh homer of the season followed a lead-off double by Clay Dungan.

The Voyagers grabbed those runs back with a two-spot in the bottom of the seventh. Joshua Rivera coaxed a one-out walk. Luis Curbelo tripled Rivera home with a deep drive to the wall in center field. Lency Delgado made it 7-3 with an RBI single to left. Idaho Falls scored the final two runs of the game in the top of the eighth.

Great Falls outhit Idaho Falls 10-to-8. Luis Curbelo, Harvin Mendoza, and Lency Delgado all posted two-hit games. Curbelo scored twice and Delgado drove in three. Delgado finished 9-for-19 in the series with nine RBIs. Clay Dungan and Rhett Aplin each had two hits for the Chukars. Dungan scored three times.

On the mound, Allan Beer notched his first win as a professional in relief. Beer (1-0) worked two innings and gave up two earned runs on two hits (HR) with four strikeouts and no walks. Grant Gambrell suffered the loss. Gambrell (1-2) lasted three innings in his start and allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Chase Solesky had a four-inning start for the Voyagers and gave up one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Great Falls continues its seven-day home stand with the first of three against Billings Monday night.
