Rapidz winning streak snapped

(ATLANTIC CITY, NJ) Wednesday, July 30, 2008 - The Atlantic City Surf stopped the Ottawa Rapidz and their five-game winning streak on Wednesday afternoon with a 9-7 win.

The Surf shook things up in the bottom of the first scoring four times. Josh Burrus scored on Clyde Williams' single then scored along with William Plaza and Eddie Kim on a double by Gil Zayas for a 4-0 lead.

The Rapidz tied the game at four in the top of the fifth inning. Juan Infante singled which scored Pete Pirman and Jared Lemieux. Infante then scored on Jake Daubert's first home run as a Rapidz and Nate Hall singled to give the Rapidz a 5-4 lead..

Atlantic City came back and scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to take an 8-5 lead. Derek Barrows singled to score one run, before Brad Thoma hit a two-run double and then scored on Plaza's single to take a three run lead.

The Rapidz managed to close the gap, adding two runs in the top of the eighth when Infante and de los Santos walked with the bases loaded. The Surf scored once in the bottom of the inning on Jabe Bergeron's error with a man at third for a 9-7 win.

Mike Kusiewicz (2-6) took the loss working 5.2 innings. The lefty allowed eight runs (all earned) on seven hits, five walks, hit one batter and two strikeouts. The win goes to Rory Shortell (5-2) who gave up five runs (all earned), on eight hits, three walks and struck out five batters in seven innings pitched. Kyle George came in with runners on base in the eighth and shut down the Rapidz in 1.1 inning to earn his second save of the season.

Fraser Robinson (3-5, 5.33 ERA) will take the mound for the Rapidz facing Atlantic City's Brian Rodaway (7-5, 3.11 ERA) in the last game of the series on Thursday, July 31 at 7:05pm.

The Rapidz return home on August 4 for a seven-game home stand against the Sussex Skyhawks and Brockton Rox.
