Rapidz stomped by Rox

(OTTAWA, ON) Friday, August 8, 2008 - Looking to win the first game of the three-game series, the Ottawa Rapidz battled the Brockton Rox in front of 1,817 fans at Rapidz Stadium. The Rox snapped a six game losing streak beating the Rapidz by a commanding score of 14-1.

The Rapidz got on the board first, plating their first and only run in the bottom of the first inning. Jared Lemieux and Jose de los Santos both singled and advanced on a fielder's choice by Jake Daubert to place two runners in scoring position. Lemieux then scored on a passed ball to take an early 1-0 lead.

Brockton responded with the tying run in the top of the second thanks to two singles and a walk to load the bases. Jason Colson scored on a sacrifice fly by Eugene Julien to score the tying run. The Rapidz avoided further damage, turning a stellar 1-2-3 double play off the CAN-AM league batting leader Melvin Falu's bat to end the inning.

The visiting Rox took a 2-1 lead in the fifth with a single by Dominic Ramos who scored on a double by Dennis Abreu. The Rox then blew the doors wide open on the game in the sixth inning scoring eight runs on seven hits to take a commanding 10-1 lead.

The Rox added four more runs to take the game 14-1. Rox starter Wayne Lundgren (7-4) earned the win pitching 8.0 innings allowing only one run (unearned) on nine hits, with zero walks and four strikeouts. Tanner Watson (2-6) was credited with the loss allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits with five walks and four strikeouts in five innings.

The Rapidz look to rebound tomorrow as Ottawa-native Mike Kusiewicz (2-6, 4.44 ERA) will take on Steve Delabar (3-3, 3.11 ERA) for the Rox at 1:05 pm. Tomorrow will be "Rookie's Birthday and Crew Day" at Rapidz Stadium where fans are invited to help Rookie celebrate his birthday while enjoying great afternoon baseball.
