Brockton Rox News Release
Ottawa, CA (August 8, 2008) - The Brockton Rox started a six-game road trip on Friday night at Rapidz stadium in Ottawa, Ontario by scoring 14 runs in an 14-1 route of the Ottawa Rapidz. The Rox offensive showcase was bolstered by an eight-run sixth inning. RHP Wayne Lundgren improved to 7-3 on the season, allowing one run in eight innings of work.
Brockton combined 15 hits with four Ottawa errors for one of the most productive offensive nights of the 2008 season. In the sixth inning, the first six batters reached base and scored and Ottawa was forced to go to the bullpen twice. The Rox send 13 men to the plate in the inning, and eight different players scored runs.
Everyone in the starting lineup scored a run in the game for Brockton, spurred by several different offensive leaders. 1B Jason Colson had three hits, while 3B Phillip Cuadrado had two hits and four RBI, including his sixth home run of the season, a three-run shot which served as the finishing touch in the ninth inning.
Lundgren pitched eight innings for the Rox for the fifth time this season. He did not walk a batter and struck out four. He allowed nine hits in the game, but kept the ball on the ground and the defense turned four double plays on the night.
Tomorrow afternoon the Rox and Rapidz play the second game of the weekend series. At 1:05 PM RHP Rony Mercado will make his professional debut for Brockton against Ottawa LHP Mike Kusiewicz.
