(Little Falls, N.J., August 8, 2008) New Jersey Jackals' starting pitcher Isaac Pavlik (7-4) controlled the Nashua Pride offense, dealing eight shut-out innings on just six hits, no walks and five strike outs, on the way to a 6-2 Pride loss at Yogi Berra Stadium on Thursday night.
Pride starting pitcher Hideki Nagasaka (6-5) suffered the loss, going seven and one-third innings, giving up four runs, on eight hits, three walks and six strike outs. Nagasaka had allowed just one run when he left the game with one out and the bases loaded in the eighth inning . Reliever Adam Piechowski was touched up for two runs on two hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning.
New Jersey's center fielder Zach Smithlin finished the night 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI while short stop Bryant Nelson went 3-for-4 with a RBI. Left fielder Andrew Larsen, right fielder Marcos Rodriguez, and catcher Matt Lauderdale each notched RBI for the Jackals.
Nashua catcher Mike Torres drove in both Pride runs with a two RBI double in the top of the ninth inning and finished the game 1-for-4. First baseman Bryan Duplissie ended the night 3-for-4 with three singles.
The Pride will travel to Atlantic City and open up a three game series on Friday, at 7:05pm, when Nashua sends Lance Stevens (6-4) to the mound. The Surf will send Brain Rodaway to the hill.
