Rapidz drop series finale to Pride

(NASHUA, NH) Sunday, July 20, 2008 - The Ottawa Rapidz struggles continued on Sunday night when they lost 6-2 to the Nashua Pride in the last game of the four-game series between the two teams.

The Pride took the lead in the bottom of the fourth after three nearly perfect innings and a 91-minute rain delay. DH Luis Rodriguez doubled with two runners on and two outs to send home 1B Bryan Duplissie. 3B Aregenis Tavarez followed with a single to produce a second run and then scored on SS Sandy Almonte's double.

Nashua added a fourth run in the bottom of the fifth when 2B Ismael Castro doubled to score CF Ervin Alcantara. They completed their scoring with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, runs produced by LF Vinny Pennell and Alcantara.

The Rapidz scored their only two runs in the ninth inning. 1B Jabe Bergeron doubled, advanced to third when 3B Jake Daubert grounded out and scored on C Kyle Geiger's single. Pete Pirman followed with another single before RF Mike Muscato sent Geiger home with yet another single.

Fraser Robinson (2-5) was unable to put the Rapidz back on the winning track. He delivered a solid performance before the rain delay. He pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs on nine hits, no walks and struck out four batters. Jason Paul (3-1) earned the win for Nashua working for six innings. He held the Rapidz to four hits, one walk, hit one batter and struck out eight. Three relievers combined their efforts to confirm the victory for the Pride.

The Rapidz now host the Atlantic City Surf and their manager, former Major League Baseball All-Star Cecil Fielder for a three-game series starting on Monday, July 21 at 7:05pm. Noel Baca III (1-6, 3.60 ERA) will start his sixth game of the season for the Rapidz. His opponent will be known prior to the game.
