
Burrus Homers For Second Straight Game; Surf Stomp Capitales

Quebec City - RF Josh Burrus went 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored as the Atlantic City Surf defeated the Quebec Capitales, 11-3, in a Can-Am League affair at Stade de Quebec on Sunday afternoon. The victory enabled Atlantic City to salvage the final game of the four-game series, and snap the club's three-game losing streak.
The Surf received another solid outing from starter Adam Cox (7-2), who allowed a run on three hits in seven innings of work, striking out eight, running his league lead to 92 K's on the season.
Atlantic City got on the board first with two runs in the second inning. 1B Eddie Kim drove in LF Joe Burke with an RBI single, before 3B Gil Zayas hit into a double play, bringing home Burrus.
Quebec got its first run of the afternoon on SS Alex Nunez's RBI single in the third inning, but the floodgates opened for the Sur f two innings later. SS Anthony Granato hit an RBI single and DH Clyde Williams swatted a two-run single in the fifth. Burrus then led off the sixth with a homer, before Granato added a two-run double in the same inning. In the seventh, Kim hit a no-out, two-run single; 2B Brad Thoma then made it an 11-1 game with an RBI single.
The Capitales' final two runs of the day came with two outs in the ninth, on CF Mike Goss' two-run single.
The Surf roughed up Quebec starter Chris Begg (0-1), who was making his first start of the season. Begg allowed eight runs on 12 hits in five and two-thirds innings of work. Kim and Thoma both finished the afternoon 3-for-4, while Granato, Burke, Burrus, and CF Lucas Taylor each had two hits.
Atlantic City travels to Ottawa to start a three-game series at 7:05 on Monday evening. Rory Shortell (2-2) is on the mound for the Surf.
