Pride Walk-Off on Rapidz, 4-3

(Nashua, N.H., July 19, 2008) Nashua Pride second baseman Ismael Castro went 4-for-5, including the game winning walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to propel the Pride over the Ottawa Rapidz, 4-3, in front of 2,376 fans at Historic Holman Stadium on Saturday night.

The Pride rallied twice in the late stages of the game to steal a win from Ottawa with NESN's the Mad Fisherman, Charlie Moore, in attendance and coaching first base for the Pride.

Nashua center fielder Jeremy Pickrel went 2-for-4 in the game with an RBI that then tied the game 2-2 in the eighth inning. Center fielder Vinny Pennell was hitless but also drove in a tying run in the ninth inning with a bases loaded walk. Catcher Luis Rodriguez finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Pride starter Jarrett Stawarz (3-2) did not factor in a decision, dealing a season high seven and one-third innings, giving up two runs (one earned), on nine hits, one walk and five strike outs. Pride reliever Rich Garces (1-0) earned the win going one and two-thirds innings of relief, giving up one run, on one hit, two walks and one strike out.

Rapidz starting pitcher Mike Kusiewicz (2-5) also did not factor in the a decision, lasting seven innings, giving up one run, on five hits, two walks and four strike outs. Reliever Jacob Ramos suffered the loss for Ottawa pitching one-third of an inning, giving up two runs, on two hits, one walks and one hit batsman.

Ottawa shortstop Juan Infante led the game off with a solo home run in the first inning, his first of the season, and finished the night 2-for-5 with and RBI. Second baseman Jose De los Santos went 2-for-5 in the game with an RBI while centerfielder Pete Pirman also finished 2-for-5 with an RBI.

The Pride and Rapidz will play the final game in their four game series on Sunday afternoon, at 5:05pm, when Nashua sends Jason Paul (2-1) to the mound. Fraser Robinson (2-4) gets the nod for Ottawa.
