Kitchener Rangers News Release
Two goals from Jaden Lindo lifted the Owen Sound Attack to a 5-3 win over the Kitchener Rangers on Wednesday night. Rookies Nick Magyar and Ryan MacInnis each scored and added an assist for the Rangers in the loss.
The opening frame was scoreless for more than 16 minutes before the Attack got on the board. Rangers netminder Matt Greenfield made the first save, but with heavy traffic at the net, the rebound slid over the line giving Owen Sound a 1-0 lead. Holden Cook was credited with the tally, his 11th of the year, with assists from Kyle Hope and Daniel Milne.
With less than 30 seconds remaining in the opening frame, rookie Ryan MacInnis pulled Kitchener even. There was one second left on a Rangers power play opportunity when the St. Louis, MO native recorded his eighth of the season. Fellow freshman Frank Hora and Nick Magyar picked up assists on the play. MacInnis leads the Rangers rookies in goals scores and sits tied with Magyar with 16 points.
The Rangers out-shot the Attack 14-11 in the first period.
Gemel Smith put Owen Sound back on top early in the second. The Dallas Stars prospect picked up the puck in his own zone, carried it through the neutral zone and lifted past Greenfield's glove hand. Jaden Lindo assisted on Smith's team-leading 21st of the year.
With 2.3 seconds left before the intermission, the Attack gained the puck off a faceoff beside the Rangers net. Smith lunged for the puck, throwing it at the netminder, and Lindo tipped it in for his eighth of the season, giving Owen Sound a 3-1 lead.
The Attack led shots on goal 11-7 in the second period.
Captain Zach Nastasiuk forced a turnover early in the third, feeding the puck to Lindo who slipped in under the pads of Greenfield for his second of the game. The draft-eligible sophomore has scored a career high nine goals for Owen Sound this season.
Ethan Szypula lifted the Attack to a 5-1 lead near the midway point of the frame, hammering a rebound by Greenfield for his second career OHL marker. Owen Sound's first round pick in the 2013 Priority Selection, his tally was assisted by rookies Jeffrey Gilligan and Justin Brack.
First-year Rangers centre Mason Kohn scored his second of the season on the man advantage with less than five to play. Curtis Meighan collected the puck beside the Attack net, shovelling it in front for the rookie from Florida. Kohn's power play marker was also assisted by captain Ben Fanelli, playing in his first game back from injury.
Magyar picked up his second point of the night with a late goal to pull the Rangers within two. The Mentor, OH native snapped his seventh of the year past Attack starter Brandon Hope, with assists from Hora and MacInnis. Magyar has recorded nine points in his last eight outings.
The Attack held on for a 5-3 victory, despite being out-shot 19-10 in the final frame and 40-32 overall. With the win, Owen Sound ties the eight-game season series at two games apiece.
