SAN ANTONIO (March 14, 2010) - San Antonio's three second-period goals shot them out in front of Peoria and finished the game with a 5-2 win over the Rivermen on Sunday afternoon at the AT&T Center. The loss stopped the Rivermen from jumping over the Rampage into fifth place and five points back of Milwaukee.
After Chris Porter gave the Rivermen a 1-0 lead in the first period, the Rampage tied it on a shorthanded goal and took the lead on two goals from MacGregor Sharp 2:27 apart. Joe Fallon suffered the loss in his third consecutive start despite finishing with 35 saves in the game.
Both teams missed on power-play chances early on in the game as the Rivermen finished 0-for-4. Just 4:51 into the game, Peoria was setup on a 1:38 four-on-three chance and at 10:05 San Antonio failed to capitalize on 1:48 of five-on-three.
Porter's goal came at 8:59 when he banged in a rebound from a Nate Guenin shot. His 12th of the year was his second in as many games and put the Rivermen in front for the only time in the game.
With Frankie Lessard boxed for roughing at 6:37 of the second, San Antonio's Sean Sullivan tied the game. His rebound goal was just the fifth shorthanded goal of the season for the Rampage who have scored one in each of their last two games against Peoria.
Sharp took over late in the frame scoring at 15:25 and again at 18:52 to build the Rampage lead to 3-1. Shaun Heshka unloaded a slapshot power-play goal at 4:40 of the third to give San Antonio their biggest lead of the game.
Peoria's second goal came at 6:23 from Nicholas Drazenovic. Julian Talbot tracked down a puck along the leftwing boards and fired a pass across the slot for a Drazenovic one-timer. It was his team-leading 19th of the season.
David Spina added an empty-netter with 32 seconds remaining to finish the scoring.
The two teams rematch on Wednesday in the sixth game of Peoria's seven-game swing. The Rivermen are 2-2-1-0 so far on the trip.
