Albany River Rats News Release

ALBANY, NY-Jamie McBain scored the deciding goal in the second period and goalie Mike Morrison stopped 27-of-28 shots faced as the Albany River Rats defeated the Syracuse Crunch 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Times Union Center.

Morrison's only blemish came early in the second period, when Crunch defenseman Grant Clitsome leveled the score at 1-1 with a power play tally at 3:02. McBain gave Albany the lead for good at 8:31 with a blue line blast on the power play and Matthew Pistilli added an insurance strike early in the third period to lift the River Rats to their third straight win. Albany has earned a point in seven straight contests.

The River Rats out-shot Syracuse 13-3 in the opening period and took a 1-0 lead on Cedric McNicoll's first goal as a River Rat. The trade deadline acquisition intercepted a Syracuse breakout pass at the top of the left faceoff circle and rang a quick snap shot off of the crossbar for his sixth of the season at 10:27.

Morrison earned his third straight victory as Albany improved to 37-24-3-5 this season. Crunch goalie Kevin Lalande stopped 27-of-30 shots faced and took the loss as Syracuse fell to 29-32-3-3 this year. The Rive Rats out-shot the Crunch 30-28 in the contest and both teams finished 1-for-6 on the power play.

Albany returns to action on Wednesday, March 17th at 7:00 p.m. in a St. Patrick's Day faceoff against the Worcester Sharks at the Times Union Center.
