March 25, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY (March 25, 2014) - The San Antonio Rampage (26-30-3-6) closed out the 12-game season series with the Oklahoma City Barons (30-27-2-7) Tuesday night with a 2-1 loss inside the Cox Convention Center. The Rampage end the season with a 5-7-0-0 record against the Barons, and the game marks just the second time in those 12 games that no player on either team registered a multi-point night.
Anthony Luciani was the solo goal-scorer for the Rampage, converting on the power play early in the third period to bring the Silver and Black within one. His first American Hockey League power-play tally was assisted by John McFarland and Greg Zanon, and he finished the game with a team-high and game-high six shots on goal. With the secondary assist on the marker, Zanon now has two assists in his last two games.
Michael Houser stopped 23-of-25 shots in the loss as the Rampage outshot the Barons 34-25.
After a back-and-forth period, the Barons got on the board first with 11.9 seconds remaining in the opening frame. Fed at the point, Brad Hunt fired the puck in on the power play, and Matthew Ford was there to tip it in past Houser to make it 1-0 for Oklahoma City.
Andrew Miller earned the secondary assist on Ford's 20th of the season.
The Barons extended their lead to two at the 14:13 mark of the second in a near-replica of their first tally. This time, it was Taylor Fedun launching it from the point with Will Acton taking the credit as he deflected it in for his 11th on the year.
Former Rampage forward Steve Pinizzotto recorded the secondary assist on Acton's tally.
Keeping with the trend of the game, the Rampage converted on their own power play chance 5:46 into the third period to make it 2-1. McFarland picked up the puck from Zanon, and dished a nice pass to Luciani, who was waiting in front of the crease. The young winger quickly jammed it home past Bachman for his second goal in a Rampage uniform this season.
Halfway to the bench for the extra skater late in the third, Houser made an incredible save to keep his team within one, but the Rampage ran out of time, falling 2-1.
The Rampage went 1-for-3 on the power play, having tallied 10 power-play goals in 12 games against the Barons this season. Oklahoma City, boasting the third-best home power play in the league, went 2-for-4 with the extra man.
The Rampage head home for a game against the Texas Stars on Thursday, March 28 at 7 p.m. The game is the rescheduled contest from March 1, having been postponed due to unsafe ice conditions. It will pick up at the 12:01 mark of the first period with Texas leading 2-0. Individual and season tickets can be purchased at the AT&T Center Southeast Box Office, by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554, or online at sarampage.com.
