Blue Jackets Reassign Defenseman Ilari Melart to Falcons

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons announced Tuesday that defenseman Ilari Melart has been reassigned to the team from HC Ugra of the Kontinental Hockey League by the Columbus Blue Jackets, the team's NHL affiliate.

Melart, 25, played 24 games with Springfield earlier in the 2013-14 season, totaling three points (one goal, two assists) and 28 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-4, 227-pound defenseman was reassigned to Ugra of the KHL Tuesday, December 17, where he played 15 games, amassing five points (one goal, four assists), 22 penalty minutes and a +3 rating.

Prior to the 2013-14 campaign, Melart played five seasons for HIFK Helsinki of SM-liiga in Finland.

The Falcons are back in action at the MassMutual Center Wednesday, March 26 to host the Adirondack Phantoms at 7:00 p.m.
