Robert Hägg to Join Phantoms
March 25, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release
The Philadelphia Flyers have announced they have signed defenseman Rober t H ägg to an entry-level contract, according to Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren. It was also announced that he is being assigned to the Adirondack Phantoms on an Amateur Tryout Contract for the remainder of the 2013-14 regular season.
H ägg, just 19 years old, will be playing his first ever games in North America whenever he makes his Phantoms' debut. He is expected to arrive in Glens Falls later this week. The 6-2, 204-lb defenseman was selected by the Flyers in the second round (#41 overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
He appeared in 50 games for MODO of the Swedish Hockey League scoring 1-5-6 with 47 penalty minutes. H ägg also played for Sweden in the World Junior Championships, helping lead the team to a silver medal.
"He's a good all-around player," Paul Holmgren said about H ägg. " Strong and physically well-developed. (We're looking at him as) a steady two-way guy. I think his ability to move the puck is exceptional. And I think his ability to play defense is exceptional. Playing over there (in Europe) vs. playing over here, the reaction time has got to get better because of the smaller ice-surface. So the number of games he can get in with the Phantoms I think is real crucial and key for his development."

25 Terrific Seasons
Glens Falls is celebrating its 25th season hosting an AHL team and in so doing now joins an elite group of just 9 other active markets who can make such a claim. It's a great hockey tradition with an old-school feel that began with the Adirondack Red Wings in 1979. In their 20-year tenure at the Glens Falls Civic Center through 1999, the Red Wings won four Calder Cups. The Adirondack Phantoms began play in Glens Falls in 2009-10 and are in their fifth season bringing exciting AHL action to the North Country.
