Rampage Fall to Toronto 2-1

TORONTO, ON (Feb. 22, 2014) - The San Antonio Rampage (23-22-3-5) fell to the Toronto Marlies (30-17-2-2) 2-1 Saturday afternoon at the Ricoh Coliseum. The loss halts the 12-game point streak the Rampage started in January and brings their record to 6-1-0-1 on the Rodeo Road Trip.

Toronto scored both of its goals in the first 10:24 of the game, getting tallies from Tyler Biggs and Jerry D'Amigo to take an early 2-0 lead. Bobby Butler recorded his 16th goal of the season, scoring off a pass from Drew Shore in the third period to cut the lead in half, but the Marlies ultimately completed the four-game season sweep of the Rampage. The Silver and Black's last loss prior to the six-game winning streak was also to Toronto, a 5-4 shootout loss on Feb. 5.

Jacob Markstrom was named the Second Star after stopping all 23 shots he faced in a relief appearance. Saturday also marked the 600th career professional game for Rampage defenseman Ryan Whitney.

The Marlies got going quick, crashing the net off the opening whistle as Tyler Biggs buried a rebound off a Mike Duco shot to make it 1-0 just 10 seconds into the game. The goal was initially waived off, but after video review, Biggs was credited with the tally.

At 10:24 of the first, Jerry D'Amigo took a pass from Spencer Abbott and got free ahead of the Rampage defense, scoring on a breakaway to make it 2-0.

Though Toronto controlled the game offensively, outshooting the Rampage 14-2 in the second, the Silver and Black were able to keep the Marlies at bay. Markstrom shined in the middle frame -- making 14 saves -- many of them coming on point blank opportunities by Toronto, including a backhand by D'Amigo on a two-on-one break.

San Antonio's best opportunity in the second period came on a Jed Ortmeyer pass to Jared Gomes on the doorstep, but MacIntyre was there for the save.

The Rampage got on the board in the third period as Shore found Butler on a transition rush to make it 2-1 at 15:04, but it wasn't enough and they took the regulation loss for the first time since Jan. 18.

San Antonio's penalty kill continued to shine, stopping the Marlies on all three of their opportunities. The Rampage finished 0-for-5 with the extra man, while the Marlies went 0-for-3. The Rampage kill is 17-for-19 in their last seven games. The Marlies owned the shot battle 32-23.

The Rampage will close out the weekend with a 2 p.m. tilt against the Hamilton Bulldogs at FirstOntario Centre on Sunday before closing out the Rodeo Road Trip inside the Memorial Auditorium in Central New York as they take on the Utica Comets for the first time this year on Wednesday (Feb. 26).
