Norfolk Admirals News Release
ALBANY, NY -- Devils' netminder Keith Kinkaid stopped 25 pucks as Albany used two goals in the second to defeat the Admirals 4-1 Saturday at the Times Union Center.
The Devils jumped out front early on a goal from winger Stefan Matteau. Matteau beat Norfolk goalie Viktor Fasth with a wrister from the left ring on the rush at 4:38 of the first period.
Albany outplayed the Admirals for most of the opening 20 minutes until John Kurtz hurried a loose puck between a scrambling Keith Kinkaid and the net. Norm Ezekiel tapped it into the open goal to tie it just before intermission.
Kurtz and Dave Steckel helped Ezekiel record his second of the season with a minute and 51 seconds left in the first period.
In the next frame, Albany heated up late with a pair of goals from Mike Sislo and Reid Boucher. After an Ezekiel tripping penalty, Sislo snapped a shot high to the short side that fooled Fasth at the 14:15 mark of the second.
Boucher followed that with a goal of his own from above the circles that glided over Fasth's shoulders at 18:01. The Albany winger burst across the Norfolk blue line into space between two Admirals defenseman before unleashing the shot that sent his team into the final period with a two-goal lead.
Kinkaid and the Devils' back line remained steady in the third and added an empty-netter for an important 4-1 victory. The win pushed Albany into sixth place in the Eastern Conference, two spots in front of Norfolk.
Fasth made 29 saves but gave up three goals in his second game with the Admirals this season. Anaheim reassigned the Swede to Norfolk on a conditioning loan yesterday.
The Admirals dropped two games in a row for the first time since December 19 and 20.
Owning a record of 27-17-1-7, they head to Springfield tomorrow to cap off a three-game road trip in an afternoon affair set for 3 p.m.
