Rampage fall to Barons

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage fell 7-2 to the Oklahoma City Barons in front of a sold-out crowd of 10,084 fans on Friday night at the AT&T Center. The Rampage claim a 39-32-4-3 record good for 85 points.

Oklahoma City was the first to jump on the scoreboard after right wing Ben Ondrus lit the lamp 5:13 after the initial puck drop. Tanner House sent a centering feed to Ondrus, who skated around the defense and snapped a shot that went high glove side of Rampage goaltender Matt Climie for a 1-0 lead.

The Rampage evened the score at 1-1 on the power play which broke Barons netminder Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers 135:30 scoreless streak at the 9:01 mark of the first period. Left wing Alex Picard netted his team-leading 24th goal of the season as Matt Beaudoin centered a pass from the left goal line to the top of the crease where Picard redirected the puck over Drouin-Deslauriers' right leg padding. Randy Robitaille supplied the additional helper.

The Barons took a 2-1 lead after Brad Moran's riser from the slot hit the glass and bounced in front of the goal where right wing Colin McDonald was able to reach the puck from a tight angle at the left post and tap it into the lower left corner of the net 15:41 into the opening frame.

Oklahoma City claimed a 3-1 advantage with McDonald's second goal of the night at the 2:45 mark of the second period. Alex Giroux and McDonald broke out into a two-on-one situation where Giroux passed across the crease to McDonald at the right post where he fired a shot behind Climie into the upper right corner of the net.

The Barons extended their lead to 4-1 as McDonald rounded out a natural hat trick with his third consecutive goal 18:34 into the middle stanza marking his second hat trick of the season. McDonald received a pass in the slot from Giroux along the right wing boards and sent the puck over Climie's right shoulder on the power play.

Oklahoma City pushed their lead to 5-1 as Climie deflected House's shot into the slot where center Milan Kytnar was able to pick up the loose puck and slide it under Climie's left leg padding 6:05 into the third period.

San Antonio responded when left wing Dane Byers scored a shorthanded goal at the 8:54 mark of the final frame. Bracken Kearns stole the puck in the neutral zone setting him up on a breakaway where he dumped the puck to Byers atop the crease for a shot that went low stick side of Drouin-Deslauriers for a 5-2 score.

Just 46 seconds later, the Barons took a 6-2 lead when right wing Mark Arcobello backhanded a shot over a sprawled out Climie for a power-play goal 9:40 into the third period.

McDonald netted his fourth goal of the evening at the 11:54 mark of the final period to give Oklahoma City the 7-2 victory. Moran and Giroux assisted on McDonald's shot from below the right faceoff circle that went top shelf over Climie.

Oklahoma City outshot San Antonio 29-11 through the first two periods and 38-21 in the contest.

Climie turned aside 31 of 38 Barons shot attempts while Drouin-Deslauriers stopped 19 of 21 Rampage shots on net.

The Rampage continue with a three-in-three series this weekend as they return to the ice tomorrow night at Allstate Arena to face the Chicago Wolves at 7 p.m. San Antonio will return home on Sunday afternoon for the final game of the regular season when they host the Texas Stars at 4:30 p.m.
