
Devils Stumble At Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Backed by a pair of goals by their captain Ben Guite, the Springfield Falcons soared past the Albany Devils, 6-0, Friday at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons used a three-goal second period to help improve their overall record to 34-39-2-3, while the Devils go to 32-41-1-4. The two teams split the season series, 2-2.
Guite began the scoring at 14:58 of the first period when his shot snuck through the five hole of Dave Caruso and then bounced off both posts before crossing the goal line. Guite added his second goal at 12:35 of the second period to make it, 3-0. He grabbed a puck off the end boards and quickly stuffed into the near opening.
David Savard got on the score sheet at 9:15 of the second between Guite's pair. Thomas Kubalik then made it 4-0 at 13:40 of the same period. Kubalik and Adam Henrique entered the contest tied for fourth in the AHL among rookies with 50 points. Kubalik now has 23 goals and 28 assists in 74 outings, while Henrique has 25 goals and 25 assists in 73 games.
Trevor Smith beat Mike McKenna, who entered the game at the start of the third, on the power play at 4:42. Nick Tarnasky concluded the scoring with 14 seconds left on the clock.
Ex-RPI netminder Allen York earned his first career shutout by making 30 shots.
He faced a youthful Albany team that dressed 11 rookies, including Mike Sislo, who made his pro debut
