Admirals Fall to Stars 3-2

Milwaukee, WI- The Milwaukee Admirals began their final weekend of the regular season with a 3-2 loss to the Texas Stars on Friday night at the Bradley Center. The loss was the third straight for Milwaukee, who finished up a season-long three game homestand with a 3-3 mark.

The Stars started the first period off strong as defensemen Jordie Benn blasted a shot from the blue line hitting right winger Raymond Sawada's stick which deflected past goaltender Jeremy Smith and trickled in at 3:05 to give Texas the lead 1-0.

Texas picked up another deflection at 7:09 of the second to go ahead 2-0. On the power play The Stars moved the puck around the Ads zone before Sawada fired a shot from the left point. The puck then bounced into the air, center Travis Morin then positioned himself in the slot and slapped the puck with his stick in mid-air. The puck found its way towards the net and went over Smith's head for the two goal lead.

After being scoreless in the first two periods, Admirals defensemen Grant Lewis cut the Stars lead in half off of a power-play goal at 6:18. Lewis collected the puck in the high slot and skated in between the two circles taking a wrister and falling in dramatic fashion for the as the puck flew over the left shoulder of Texas netminder Richard Bachman.

Morin earned the eventual game-winner with an even-strength goal, his second of the night, as he received a cross pass from Greg Rallo from the far corner in the Admirals zone. Morin settled the puck and shot it over Smith's leg for 3-1 lead at 16:41 in the third period.

The Admirals were able to get one back as right winger Mike Bartlett scored his first power-play goal of the season at 19:32 cutting the lead to one. The Ads put an extra attacker on the ice and going two up on the Stars in the final two minutes of the game because of a Texas penalty. Blueliner Roman Josi got the puck moving as he forced a pass across the ice to Lewis, he then fired a slap shot that bounced off netminder Bachman, Bartlett found the loose puck in the slot and blasted it in from close range. However that was all they could get.

Bachman earned the win with 31 saves, while Smith turned away 20 of the 23 shots on the night in a losing effort.

The Admirals head to Peoria on Saturday night before returning to the Bradley Center for the home finale on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 pm versus Grand Rapids.
