San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (November 25, 2008) - With Phoenix Coyote GM Don Maloney looking on, the San Antonio Rampage were down before they knew what hit them. But the Rampage stormed back before losing 5-3 at the AT&T Center Tuesday Night.
32 seconds in the first, Ryan White scored his fifth goal of the season when Bulldogs leading point scorer Matt D'Agostini found him on the left wing during a two-on-one break for a quick 1-0 lead. Less than five minutes later, former Rampage center Yanick Lehoux assisted White again to put Hamilton up 2-0 early in the first. Lehoux, from behind the net, found White cutting to the net for the one-timer past Rampage goalie Al Montoya.
San Antonio cut the lead in half at the 9:53 mark when Oren Eizenman, making his Rampage debut, found Sean Sullivan backdoor on the power play for his first career AHL goal.
The Bulldogs scored late in the first period when White returned the favor finding D'Agostini who wristed a missile high glove side past Montoya for a 3-1 lead with just 11.2 second left in the period.
In the second, forward Brett MacLean added his team-leading seventh goal of the year just 2:13 into the period to cut the lead to 3-2. Also in the second, Rampage head coach Greg Ireland made the switch to goaltender Josh Tordjman who held Hamilton in check saving all 11 Bulldogs shots.
San Antonio made it all the way back when MacLean centered forward Derek Nesbitt backdoor for the one-timer and a 3-3 game just 1:16 into the third. Nesbitt's third goal of the season beat AHL wins leader Marc Denis.
The Bulldogs bit back at the 12:26 mark when Max Pacioretty deflected a Shawn Belle wrister from between the circles giving Hamilton a 4-3 lead.
Still down 4-3 with 2:54 remaining, Ryan Lannon's hooking penalty put the Rampage at a disadvantage and the Bulldogs capitalized with some nifty 3-way passing and a power-play goal from Mike Glumac to cushion the lead to 5-3 with 1:45 to play.
The loss extends two dubious streaks, both the franchise winless streak to 14 games (0-13-0-1) and the franchise losing streak to 10 games. San Antonio out shot the Bulldogs 37-35 and went 2-4 on the power play. Tordjman took the loss in relief and Denis added to his league leading wins total.
San Antonio returns to the AT&T this Saturday to take on the Houston Aeros for the annual Salute to Badges Night honoring the cities finest, those who serve and those who have fallen. The Rampage will wear special jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game with proceeds going toward their memorial fund.
