Rampage Earn Point In 2-1 Overtime Loss To Houston

HOUSTON (December 16, 2009) - Rampage forward Mikkel Boedker scored the lone San Antonio goal in the final frame to send the game to overtime, however the Rampage were unable to score in the extra session falling 2-1 to the Houston Aeros Wednesday night at Toyota Center.

The Aeros jumped on the board first with a Colton Gillies goal at the 9:34 mark of the second period. Houston's 71st goal of the season came two minutes after their first power-play opportunity as defenseman Justin Falk carried the puck over the blueline to the left half wall where he passed the puck to Aeros center Nathan Smith at the bottom of the left circle. Smith skated over to the left post and passed the puck to Gillies in the slot who punched the puck in back door past Rampage netminder Josh Tordjman to give the Aeros a 1-0 lead.

The Rampage evened the score in the third frame when San Antonio right wing Matt Watkins carried the puck from behind the net over to the left side where he passed the puck to Mikkel Boedker in the low slot who then fired a shot past Aeros netminder Wade Dubielewicz into the top left corner of the net. Kyle Turris was credited with the second helper on Boedker's third goal of the season at the 10:01 mark of the third period that sent the game to overtime.

The Rampage recorded three shots on goal in overtime before the Aeros scored with 35 seconds left to win the game 2-1. Houston center Chad Rau carried the puck from behind the net along the left wall to the top of the left circle where he left the puck for Aeros defenseman Maxim Noreau. Noreau then skated to the bottom of the left faceoff circle before firing a shot five-hole past Tordjman that ricocheted off the inner right post and into the net.

The Rampage posted their third overtime loss in their sixth extra session game dropping San Antonio to a 9-14-3-1 record with 22 points.

Rampage center Kevin Porter skated in his 100th professional hockey game tonight while Tordjman made his 11th start of the season stopping 36 of 38 Aeros shots. Houston, who holds the AHL's lowest shots against average (24.18) entering tonight's game, allowed 27 Rampage shots on goal.

Referee Jeff Smith whistled each team one penalty a piece in regulation tying a franchise low for the Rampage with two penalty minutes.

The Rampage host their fifth annual Teddy Bear Toss this Friday when the Grand Rapids Griffins visit the AT&T Center for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
