Kings Recall Martinez from Manchester

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have recalled defenseman Alec Martinez from the Monarchs, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. In addition, the Kings have placed forward Wayne Simmonds on the injured reserve list (retroactive to Dec. 11).

Martinez, 22, has played in one game for the Kings this season - his NHL debut on Oct. 3. He has also appeared in 13 games for the Monarchs this season, recoding six points (3-3=6), six penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating.

The 6-foot-1, 208-pound native of Rochester Hills, Mich. recorded 23 points (8-15=23) and 42 penalty minutes in 72 games with Manchester last season. He was tied for first among Monarchs rookie defensemen in goals, assists and points. His 23 points was also 14th among AHL blue-liners.

Simmonds, 21, was placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury. In 33 games with the Kings this season, the 6-foot-2, 183-pound native of Scarborough, Ontario recorded 20 points (9-11=20). Last season in his rookie year Simmonds had 23 points (9-14=23) while playing in all 82 games (one of five Kings to play in every regular season game).
