Wanvig Signs With Pirates

Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey announced today that Kyle Wanvig has been signed by the Buffalo Sabres to an AHL SPC.

Wanvig was nearing the end of his 25-game Professional Tryout, signed on October 21st.

In 23 games with the Pirates the 28 year-old Calgary, Alberta native has collected seven goals and nine assists for 16 points to rank tied for fourth in team scoring.

In 373 career AHL games Wanvig has registered 108 goals and 116 assists for 224 points. He's also appeared in 75 NHL games (with Minnesota and Tampa Bay) collecting six goals and 11 assists for 15 points.

The next Pirates (14-12-3-2) home game takes place this Friday when the Springfield Falcons (10-14-4-2) visit the Cumberland County Civic Center for a 7 p.m. start. Saturday the Pirates meet the Sound Tigers (16-13-1-2) at 7 p.m. at the CCCC. It's a Labatt Blue Light Hockey Night in Portland and someone could win Salty Pete's Treasure Chest filled with more than $500 in prizes. It's also the Pirates second Student Achiever Night of the season as the Pirates and Aquafina reward participating schools and students with free tickets to the game.
