Manitoba Moose News Release
Today, the Manitoba Moose hockey club visited the Rehabilitation Centre for Children to spread holiday cheer and meet the children who utilize the Centre. On this visit, the Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation donated $2,500 in gifts-in-kind to the Children's Rehabilitation Foundation.
These gifts included a Wii Fit, PlayStation 3 and a Rock Band gaming system for the Centre, as well as Manitoba Moose merchandise for every child.
The Children's Rehabilitation Foundation has been a charity recipient of the Moose Yearling Foundation for the past 11 years. With today's donations, the Yearling Foundation has now given a total of $74,204.00 to the Children's Rehabilitation Foundation dating back to 1997.
These funds have been used to purchase a wide variety of pieces of equipment required by children living with special needs so that they can live happier and fuller lives. This includes:
- Individual equipment
like special bikes so kids can leave their wheelchairs and cycle for the first time, computers to help complete their schoolwork.
- Items for the Feeding Clinic which is the Centre's fastest growing clinic.
- Equipment for the Specialized Communication Resources for Children so that non-verbal children can learn other ways to communicate.
- Computer software, hardware, and adaptive equipment for the Technology Learning Centre which is a department that provides assessment and up-to-date equipment for children and youth to determine the best piece of equipment to meet their therapy needs.
- Funding for the RBC Therapeutic Recreation and Wellness Program which was developed to provide social and recreational outlets for children living with special needs.
This is the first year the Moose have visited the Rehabilitation Centre for Children.
In addition, the Moose Yearling Foundation donated over $2,500 and close to 100 stuffed bears to the Children's Hospital this holiday season. As a result, the Moose have now donated close to $38,000 to the Children's Hospital over the past nine years.
