San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (January 7, 2011)- The San Antonio Rampage claimed a 5-1 victory over the Texas Stars in front of a sold out crowd of 7,701 at the AT&T Center on Friday night. The Rampage improve to a 24-13-1-0 record good for 49 points.
San Antonio center Andrew Ebbett and right wing Matt Watkins each scored a goal to extend their point streaks to five and four games, respectively.
Rampage skaters Nolan Yonkman, Garrett Stafford, Brett MacLean and Mikkel Boedker each registered a multiple point night as Yonkman tallied two assists and Stafford, MacLean and Boedker each had one goal and one assist on the night. Yonkman's points were his first as a member of the San Antonio roster while center Tyler Mosienko scored his first goal donned in a Rampage sweater.
Texas took an early 1-0 lead after a San Antonio turnover resulted in a breakaway for left wing Fabian Brunnstrom where he fired a shot from above the left faceoff circle that beat Rampage goaltender Matt Climie to the blocker side 4:10 after the initial puck drop.
The Rampage evened the score at 1-1 on Ebbett's power-play goal at the 16:33 mark of the first period. Petr Prucha set up Ebbett with a backdoor feed at the right goal post allowing him to redirect the puck into the lower right corner past Stars netminder Richard Bachman. Stafford added the second helper.
San Antonio claimed a 2-1 advantage on Watkins' backhanded shot from the left post at the 1:44 mark of the second period. Maxim Goncharov and Yonkman were credited with the assists on Watkins' sixth goal of the season.
Just 1:20 later, Mosienko received the puck at the bottom of the left faceoff circle from Matt Pope and punched it home past Bachman to extend the Rampage lead to 3-1. Yonkman provided the second assist.
The Rampage pushed their lead to 4-1 as Boedker and MacLean assisted on Stafford's wrap around goal at the 10:06 mark in the third period. San Antonio sealed the victory at 5-1 when Boedker blasted a shot from the slot that beat Bachman over his glove at 12:41 mark of the final frame. MacLean provided the assist on Boedker's ninth goal of the season
Climie made 27 saves on 28 Stars shot attempts while Bachman turned aside 17 shots on 22 Rampage attempts.
The Rampage return to the ice on Saturday night as they begin a home-and-home series with the Houston Aeros at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center. They will travel to Houston on Sunday afternoon for a 4:05 p.m. puck drop at the Toyota Center.
