Binghamton Senators News Release
OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 7, 2011) - The Ottawa Senators today recalled goaltender Robin Lehner on an emergency basis from the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators . He is being recalled to replace an injured Pascal Leclaire.
A native of Goteborg, Sweden, Lehner is being recalled by the Senators on an emergency basis for the second time this season. He was recalled for the first time on Oct. 16 and made his NHL debut that evening at Montreal, stopping all three shots he faced in the first 4:42 of the third period while Brian Elliott replaced a broken skate. He has also served as Elliott's backup for seven NHL contests this season.
Lehner, 19, has a record of 3-5-1 in 10 games with the B-Sens this season. He earned his first professional shutout, making 33 saves in a 5-0 home win over Syracuse on Nov. 7.
Lehner recently returned to Binghamton after being loaned to Sweden's national junior team for the 2011 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, which concluded on Wednesday in Buffalo, N.Y. Sweden finished fourth at the 10-team tournament. In three games at the world juniors, Lehner earned a record of 2-0-1, including a 2-0 shutout victory (30 saves) over Russia on Dec. 28 and a 6-5 shootout victory over Canada on Dec. 31. Lehner was recognized as Sweden's player of the game following the preliminary round win over Russia.
The Senators' second of two second-round picks (46th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Lehner is expected to join the Senators in advance of their game this evening in Chicago at 8:30 p.m. EST.
The B-Sens, in fifth place in the AHL's East Division with a 16-16-2-2 record and 36 points, next see action tonight when they host the Syracuse Crunch at 7:05 p.m.
